Preparing for your appointment

There are many things to think of when preparing for your appointment with our experienced solicitors and it can sometimes be a daunting experience. Please rest assured that we will do all we can to make you feel as comfortable as possible with the process. We understand that this may be a difficult time for you and we are friendly and approachable. You will have a personal solicitor throughout your case who you can contact by phone, email or arrange a personal meeting. If you have any queries before our meeting, please do not hesitate to contact us. 

Once you have asked us to proceed with your case, we will send you the firm's Terms of Business together with your personal Engagement Letter. 

 

There are however some documents and information that you can bring with you to be as best prepared as possible and will help us with your case:

Proof of identity

In order to start your case we will often require two forms of identification for each person, one of which must be a photographic identification method. We cannot proceeds with your case, until we have the ID documents. 

We would require at least one of:

  • Passport

  • UK photo driving licence

  • H.M. Forces Identity card

  • and at least one of the below showing your current address:

  • Bank or credit card statement (less than 3 months old)

  • utility bill

  • council tax bill for current year

  • mortgage statement for current year

  • It is also worth considering information pertinent to the particular service you want us to help you with:

    Wills
    • Please complete and return your Wills Questionnaire 

    • Please provide full names and address of all persons referred to in your Will

    • Please send signed copies of any previous Wills

    Lasting Power of Attorney
    • Please complete and return your Power of Attorney Questionnaire 

    • Please send signed copies of any previous LPAs

    • Please provide full names and address of your chosen Attorneys

    Probate and Estate Administration
    • Original death certificate. You can send this to us before your appointment should you wish

    • The original Will if not held by Calon Law

    • Full list of assets for the estate (e.g. properties, vehicles, bank accounts, pensions)

    • Full list of liabilities (e.g. mortgages, loans, bills etc)

    • Full names and address for all beneficiaries of the will

    • ID for all beneficiaries so that we can ensure the inheritance passes to the correct people

    Surrogacy Law/Fertility Treatment
    • Please provide a copy of any Surrogacy Agreement

    • Please complete and return your Surrogacy Questionnaire
